The customer attempted to install a new turbine, but the revised drain arrangement interfered with the existing baseplate, making installation impossible without significant modification.
Blackstone:
Performed 3D scans of both the in-service turbine and the new turbine, followed by a variation analysis of the piping arrangement.
Identified that three flanges were incorrectly located in addition to the required fitting change.
Replaced two drain spools to ensure proper alignment with the plant’s piping and baseplate constraints.
Added supports to the piping to maintain alignment and compliance with applicable API codes.
Avoided onsite piping modifications and eliminated the risk of pipe strain.
Enabled installation of the new turbine without requiring changes to the baseplate.
